The Cybersecurity Crisis Is About More Than “Rogue AI”

September 30, 2026
from Kellogg School of Management

AI is making cyberattacks cheaper, faster, and more sophisticated. Recent reports of autonomous agents compromising Hugging Face show how quickly misaligned systems can create real-world risk. But ideally those same tools could help defenders find and fix vulnerabilities before attackers exploit them. Professor V.S. Subrahmanian joined host Jess Love on the "Life, Automated" podcast to examine the impact of that escalating race on everything from phishing scams and insecure apps to the systems that underpin the electric grid and other critical infrastructure.

Networks Could Benefit from More Disorder

September 17, 2026
from Northwestern Now

Northwestern University physicists developed a mathematical framework that identifies when disorder can actually make a system more stable. The team, led by Professor Adilson Motter, found that many physical, engineered and biological complex systems can become more stable when their components, or the interactions among them, are different.

Genetic Toolkit May Improve Study of Gut Bacteria’s Role in Disease

September 17, 2026
from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine

A novel genetic toolkit developed by Professor Yaping Liu and a team at Weill Cornell Medicine may improve the study of how Clostridia bacteria in the gut contribute to disease and reveal new molecular mechanisms that may serve as effective therapeutic targets.
