To explore critical issues around AI-enabled terrorism and warfare, emerging defense applications, and governance frameworks that ensure transparency and accountability, on Dec. 11 the Northwestern Security & AI Lab (NSAIL) convened leading experts in AI, cybersecurity, and national security for the annual Conference on AI & National Security. More than 600 individuals registered to attend, either in person or online.

More than 30 students battled it out at Northwestern’s first-ever music hackathon, BitCrush, on Nov. 15, performing familiar hits and original compositions with an unusual instrument: code. The event was sponsored by the Northwestern Network for Collaborative Intelligence.

Professor Dedre Gentner has received the 2025 Benjamin Franklin Medal in Computer and Cognitive Science from the Franklin Institute, which for more than two centuries has honored the world’s most influential scientists, engineers and inventors who have made significant advances in science and technology.
